The Radiant Journey of Day Two – Randoli Perahera in Kandy
On the second night, the Randoli Perahera turns the streets of Kandy into a glowing lane of reverence. The processions are ever richer in sound, in movement, and in layers of spiritual meaning.
Families from all over the island arrive early for a good view, thinking that the blessings are all the greater the later in the holiday. The image of bedecked elephants, accompanied by torchbearers and dancers, is one that historically moves us in spiritual wonder, in a timeless tradition.
Many people pray for family peace, safe travel, and for their work to flourish tonight. Drums beat continuously, and men and women chant, not only in the streets, but also in earnest prayers of their hearts.
